The cytogenetics of the first epithelioid cell line (CNE) derived from the biopsy of a
nasopharyngeal carcinoma has been investigated by chromosome banding techniques. The
cell line was pseudo near‐triploid, and the modal number was 67–68 without major
variation. All cells contained a series of characteristic marker chromosomes. Most of them
were either consistent or found repeatedly. The origin of the marker was traced and many
markers were identified. Two of the consistent acrocentric markers were identified as 2p‐and …
The cytogenetics of the first epithelioid cell line (CNE) derived from the biopsy of a nasopharyngeal carcinoma has been investigated by chromosome banding techniques. The cell line was pseudo near‐triploid, and the modal number was 67–68 without major variation. All cells contained a series of characteristic marker chromosomes. Most of them were either consistent or found repeatedly. The origin of the marker was traced and many markers were identified. Two of the consistent acrocentric markers were identified as 2p‐ and 14q +, which may be identical with the large acrocentric markers (LAM) previously found in cells of the biopsies of nasopharyngeal carcinomas.
