The effects of substance P (SP) on inositol trisphosphate (IP 3) accumulation, myosin light
chain (MLC) phosphorylation, cAMP formation and contraction were studied in iris sphincter
smooth muscle of different mammalian species. SP receptor density was also examined in
membrane fractions from this tissue. The data obtained can be summarized as follows.(1) In
