Enteroviruses of the Picornaviridae, such as costsackieviruses (CV) of group B (CVB), are
generally considered to be the most common cause of viral myocarditis (1, 9, 16, 20-22, 29).
Other members of the human enterovirus group comprising at present about'70 serotypes
(eg, various coxsackie A viruses and echoviruses) have also been associated with human vi-
ral heart disease. Enterovirus-induced myocarditis may be acute, subacute, or chronic. The
